My debut collection of knitted cushions and throws is inspired by the body decoration of the Nuba tribe in Sudan. At least this was the starting point, but my designs are rarely that literal, as I like to merge lots of ideas together and let things develop organically. Throughout the design process the collection has evolved to the point that the initial inspiration isn’t recognisable, but for me it all started from this painting I did in a sketchbook years ago. It felt right to look back at previous inspirations with a fresh eye, as I set out to work on my first homeware project. This is why I have named the collection “Nuba”.
