In Sight: Barranco street view – 1

Barranco is a small neighbourhood in Lima that feels surprisingly tranquil in comparison to the rest of the city. At the beginning of the 20th century it was a summer resort for rich Peruvians, but as the city grew and merged together the area fell into decline. Today it is on the up and many colonial mansions and art deco buildings have been renovated and turned into interesting art galleries, small independent shops, atmospheric cafes, bars and restaurants.

On my trip to Peru I spent a lot of time in Barranco. I often wandered around the streets with my camera and sketchbook, soaking up the atmosphere and capturing the colours and architectural details that gave this neighbourhood so much character.
